IKEA just dropped a full lineup of Matter over Thread sensors and most of them cost about the same as a Big Mac 🍔
So… are these $6–$8 devices actually good enough to replace premium sensors in a real smart home? Or are they just cheap?
In this video, I test them side-by-side with Eve, compare them inside Apple Home and Homey Pro, and figure out which ones are worth buying… and which ones aren’t. 🔍

The water leak sensor saves battery by disconnecting when it doesn’t need to be connected. It then connects periodically or sooner if a leak is detected. It’s a feature not a bug.
Using a Aqara m100, will I be able to bring these into Aqara home and then into home app ? Asking to check if these can be integrated into my Aqara diy security modes.
The “alpstuga” CO2 meter was quite revealing for me; in Europe we have fairly small rooms and I don’t have air conditioning, so if you keep the inner doors closed in winter there’s not much air movement. During the day in the main living room we saw normal, low values like 400, but in the evening watching TV or whatever, it gradually rose to about 1000 (not actually dangerous), which explains a bit why I was dozing off before bedtime! I’ll be investigating how to improve air flow…
I have some of these Ikea devices: buttons, door sensors, water leak sensor and a lot of bulbs connected to SmartThings and they work great. They are connected via matter over thread to my Smartthings Hub (Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2), and work locally, no internet/cloud need for automations and actions. For the price I highly recommend them. Also with the community Edge Drivers we can get and do a lot more with these inexpensive devices.
Yeah unless you’re doing wifi everything needs a hub.
